The Dangers of Aluminium in Deodorants

Many people use deodorant to eliminate the unpleasant odour of sweat. Glands in the body produce this salty, clear liquid as a way to regulate body temperature in extremely hot temperatures and while participating in vigorous physical activity. If you were unable to sweat, your body temperature would rise to dangerous or even lethal levels under these conditions. Bacteria cause the odour and commercially produced deodorant kills the bacteria. That is not a bad thing. What is bad is the aluminium, which is the active ingredient used in the manufacture of these products. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that people should be worried about the dangers of aluminium in deodorants.

The body needs many different minerals, trace elements, and vitamins for normal function but aluminium is not of them. In fact, this element is toxic, particularly to the nervous system. It is the third most abundant element on Earth next to oxygen and silicon. What is most alarming is the fact that it is used in so many products we use every day. This includes cookware, beverage cans, aspirin, foil, and antacids just to name a few of those products.

The risk of exposure is particularly high and its effects on the human body can be alarming. When it enters the body, it accumulates in the thyroid gland, lungs, liver, brain, and kidneys. It competes for absorption with calcium and travels throughout the body attacking the central nervous system.

Certain studies have linked aluminium to oxidative stress in brain cells. This can lead to a variety of degenerative brain conditions, including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. Because it accumulates in tissues over time, it is present in the brains of elderly people in amounts much higher than the brains of middle-aged individuals.

Its use is so prevalent in today's society, it has become nearly impossible to avoid some exposure to this toxic metal. What you can do is limit your exposure by making healthy lifestyle choices. One of those choices can be avoiding the use of deodorants that contain this dangerous element. (View deodorants here)

These deodorants are made with all natural ingredients, including grapefruit seed extract and aloe vera. Instead of relying on harmful artificial fragrances containing harsh chemicals, these natural deodorants are made with essential oils, including lavender, rose geranium, juniper, frankincense, sandalwood, and sage.
